In Giappone Giugno segna l’inizio della stagione delle piogge, tsuyu 梅雨, che in genere dura fino alla seconda metà di Luglio (augurateci buona fortuna!). Ma c’è un lato positivo: la fioritura delle ortensie, che tingono la città di azzurro, viola e rosa.
A Tokyo ci sono molti luoghi in cui ammirarle, ma uno dei più suggestivi è il santuario Hakusan, nel cuore di Tokyo. In occasione della fioritura, il santuario organizza un festival (Ajisan Matsuri). Oltre ad ammirare e fotografare i fiori, chi visita il tempio può partecipare a una serie di attività, principalmente dedicate ai bambini e alle famiglie, e ovviamente mangiare cibo di strada come takoyaki, spiedini e kakigori (la granita giapponese). Siamo rimasti molto colpiti da questo grazioso santuario e il matsuri ci ha dato l’occasione di esplorare un quartiere che non avevamo mai visitato prima. June marks the beginning of tsuyu 梅雨, the rain season, which usually lasts until the second half of July (wish us luck!). But one of the best things that comes out of the rain season is the arrival of hydrangeas, or Ajisai 紫陽花.
There are many spots to see hydrangeas in full blossom in Tokyo, but one of the best is Hakusan Jinja, in the heart of the city. During the second weekend of June, it holds a festival, Ajisan Matsuri 紫陽花祭り, to celebrate this beautiful flower. The hydrangeas of course are the highlight of the matsuri, and the visitors can also participate to some arts and crafts activities, mostly aimed at children and families, and buy food from many food stalls. We really enjoyed our visit to Hakusan Jinja and the matsuri gave us the chance to explore a new area of the city. Here are some pictures of our day.
