Oggi è uscito il nuovo gioco per Nintendo Switch Pokémon Let’s Go! 😀 In Giappone la Pokémon frenzy non è mai andata via però: più di metà della popolazione gioca regolarmente a Pokémon Go e partecipa a eventi incentrati sui Pokémon come la Pikachu Parade che si tiene a Yokohama ogni anno. Per celebrare l’uscita di Pokémon Let’s Go, siamo andati al Pokémon Café di Nihonbashi, in centro a Tokyo.
Tomorrow is the release date for the new Nintendo Switch game Pokémon Let’s Go! In Japan, however, the Pokémon frenzy never went away:everyone here is still playing Pokémon Go or attends events related to Pokémon, like the Pikachu parade in Yokohama every year. To celebrate the release of Pokémon Let’s Go, we decided to visit the Pokémon Café in Nihonhbashi, in central Tokyo.
Questo ristorante è talmente popolare che è necessaria la prenotazione online. Noi siamo arrivati un po’ prima della nostra prenotazione, che era tra le 6.30 e le 8, quindi abbiamo fatto un giro al Pokémon center adiacente. Si viene accolti da uno Snorlax gigante affiancato da Pikachu e Mew.
This restaurant is so popular that it’s necessary to reserve a table online. We got to the Pokémon café a little earlier than our booking, so we checked out the Pokémon center in the same building. You are welcomed by a giant Snorlax accompanied by Pikachu and Mew.
Oltre al bellissimo merchandise in vendita, all’interno del Pokémon Center ci sono un paio di pareti dedicate a rispettivamente alla storia dei Pokémon, con video di gameplay dei giochi, e ad un Pokédex interattivo con cui si possono cercare informazioni sui vari Pokémon (mosse, debolezze, dimensioni medie ecc.).
The Pokémon center sells some really amazing merchandise, and it also has a couple of interactive walls where you can check out the history of Pokémon games and you can consult the Pokédex and gather info on your favorite Pokémon (moves, weaknesses, average size etc.)

E ora arriviamo al pezzo forte: il Pokémon café! Alle 6.30 in punto, ci siamo presentati all’ingresso del ristorante con la ricevuta della prenotazione e una delle signorine alla reception ci ha portati al nostro tavolo. Ognuno dei posti a sedere aveva una tovaglietta di carta girata al contrario, e la nostra cameriera ci ha invitati a girarle per vedere che Pokémon ci era capitato. Io sono stata un po’ sfigata perché mi è capitato Rhyhorn 😦 Le tovagliette si possono poi portare a casa come souvenir dal negozio.
And now let’s talk about the Pokémon Café. At 6.30 sharp, we went to the café entrance with the online booking receipt. One of the hostesses led us to our table, where there were four paper table covers placed upside down, each with a different Pokémon. I was not very lucky as I got Rhyhorn!These covers can be taken home as a souvenir from the café.
Al Pokémon café si ordina con un tablet…ho fatto qualche fotografia così potete dare un’occhiata a cosa offre il menu e soprattutto ai prezzi. Onestamente, I prezzi sono un po’ esagerati per il tipo di cibo che viene servito, ma d’altronde quello che si paga è il fatto che i piatti siano a tema Pokémon.
At the Pokémon cafe you order using a tablet…I took some pictures of a few of the menu items so you can check out what they offer, and the prices. To be honest, the prices are quite high for the type of food, however I guess what you are paying for the Pokémon-themed look.

Pacco di ciambelle take-away
Noi abbiamo ordinato un frappe all’uva, un caffelatte e una ciambella a forma di Pikachu. Il frappe all’uva era estremamente dolce, ma la presentazione è stata davvero eccezionale. All’interno del bicchiere c’è anche un cubetto di ghiaccio finto, con una lucetta rossa, così da far apparire Gengar molto spiritato! Il caffelatte era buono, ma la differenza prezzo rispetto a un caffelatte comprato da Starbucks è di 400 yen (circa 1 euro e 50), praticamente il doppio. C’è anche la possibilità di ordinare questi drink e di portare il bicchiere a casa. Ad esempio, se un caffelatte con la tazza di Pikachu costa 800 yen, lo stesso caffelatte con tazza da portare a casa costa 1800 yen.
We ordered a Gengar smoothie, a latte and a Pikachu-shaped donut. The Gengar smoothie is a grape smoothie, very sweet but with a great presentation. Inside the glass that has Gengar’s face on it, there is a fake ice cube with a red light, which makes Gengar’s face so spooky! The latte was good too, however its price was double the price of a Starbucks latte (800 yen at Pokémon Cafe, 400 at Starbucks). There is also the possibility to order the drinks that include the take away glass / mug. So for example, a Pikachu latte by itself costs 800 yen, while the same latte with the take away mug is 1800 yen.
A metà della nostra prenotazione, si comincia a sentire un po’ di commozione…è arrivata Eevee! La mascotte di Eevee se la gira per il ristorante per circa una ventina di minuti, concedendosi al pubblico per fotografie e facendo una specie di sketch con la cameriera. Ovviamente il tutto era in Giapponese quindi non abbiamo capito molto! Sia adulti che bambini erano molto contenti di interagire con Eevee, e non mi sono sottratta a darle il cinque quando è passata vicino al nostro tavolo.
Halfway through the meal, we start hearing people cheering in the corridor…Eevee is here! The Eevee mascotte stays in the restaurant for around 20 minutes, posing for pictures with the kids (and grown ups) and doing a comedy sketch with one of the waitresses. Of course everything was in Japanese so we didn’t understand much! Kids and adults were very happy to interact with Eevee, who was giving high fives to everybody!
Ci è piaciuto visitare il Pokémon café, anche se abbiamo preferito prendere uno snack piuttosto che uno dei piatti principali perché la nostra prenotazione era durante il pomeriggio e nessuno dei piatti ci faceva veramente gola. Una delle cose divertenti che potreste provare è la carbonara di Pikachu, che nasconde gli spaghetti sotto una frittata a forma di Pikachu.
We enjoyed visiting the Pokémon Café, but we didn’t order any of the mains as our booking was in the early evening and the main dishes didn’t look very appetising. Maybe when you visit though you can be braver than us and order a Pikachu carbonara, with the spaghetti hiding underneath Pikachu.
Not the usual tourists
