Gli splendidi colori autunnali hanno finalmente raggiunto il culmine a Tokyo, creando paesaggi ricchi di sfumature e tonalità talmente inaspettate da sembrare quasi artificiali. Uno dei parchi migliori per ammirare questo spettacolo della natura è il parco nazionale Shinjuku Gyoen, a dieci minuti dall’affollata stazione di Shinjuku.
The amazing autumn colours are now peaking in Tokyo, creating landscapes with all the shades of reds, oranges and yellows and sometimes out of this world tones. One of the best parks to take in all the beauty of this season is the National Park Shinjuku Gyoen, just around 10 minutes from the busy Shinjuku station.
Shinjuku Gyoen si estende per circa 58 ettari e include tre diversi tipi di giardino: uno alla giapponese, uno alla inglese e uno alla francese. Durante l’autunno le star del giardino giapponese sono gli aceri, che si accendono di arancio e rosso e che si riflettono sull’acqua dei tre laghetti con le carpe che fanno parte del giardino.
Shinjuku Gyoen is 58 acres wide and it includes a Japanese, an English and a French landscape garden. During the autumn the stars of the Japanese garden are surely the maple trees, with their orange and red leaves that reflect on the water of the three ponds (with their carps) that are part of this garden.

Il giardino francese è composto dal viale dei platani e dal giardino delle rose. I platani cominciano a tingersi di giallo già da metà Novembre ed è un piacere camminare sulle foglie accartocciate che ricoprono tutto il viale. Il giardino delle rose è veramente ben curato, e ho trovato molto divertente leggere tutti i nomi che sono stati dati alle diverse rose: Fiamma olimpica, Principessa Akiko, Pura Poesia, Mia Nonna (My Granny) e addirittura Gina Lollobrigida!
The French garden includes the avenue of sycamore trees and the rose garden. The sycamore trees start to become yellow from mid-November so when I visited the whole road was covered in sycamore leaves and walking on it made the most amazing noise. The rose garden is very well kept and I giggled a lot when reading the names that have been given to the different roses: Olympic flame, Princess Akiko, Pure Poetry, My Granny and even Gina Lollobrigida!

Anche durante la settimana il parco è parecchio affollato: c’è chi scatta fotografie, chi dipinge ispirato dai colori autunnali, chi si concede un pisolino sul prato, chi fa picnic, chi porta i bambini a giocare e divertirsi tra le foglie cadute, chi legge un buon libro.
Even during the week the park is quite crowded: there are many people taking pictures, someone painting a landscape inspired by the autumn colours, who naps on the lawn, who has a picnic, who plays with their children with the fallen leaves, who reads a good book.
All’interno del giardino inglese si trova anche la serra, dove vengono coltivate delle bellissime orchidee. E proprio di fronte alla serra potete ammirare un paio di grandissimi alberi di gingko, le cui foglie sono anche uno dei simboli di Tokyo.
Within the English garden there is a greenhouse with many tropical flowers and lots of beautiful orchids. And in front of the treehouse you can see two big gingko trees – the gingko leaf is also one of Tokyo’s symbols.

Il parco si trova vicino alla stazione di Shinjuku Gyoemmae, sulla linea Marunouchi. L’ingresso costa 200 yen (1 euro e 50) e il parco è chiuso il lunedì.
Shinjuku Gyoen is at 5 minutes walk from Shinjuku Gyoemmae station, on the Marunouchi line. The entrance fee is 200 yen and the park is closed on Mondays.
